Nancy M. Verost
Nancy M. (Hugar) Verost, 85, formerly of Philipsburg, PA passed away peacefully on Friday, August 16, 2024, at Centre Care, Bellefonte. She was born October 6, 1938, at Philipsburg State General Hospital to Paul C. and Gladys M. (Lucas) Hugar.
Nancy attended the one room school in Keewaydin PA where she grew up. She graduated from Clearfield Area Senior High School in 1956. Upon graduation, she worked at the General Cigar Factory in Philipsburg for nearly 20 years.
On January 4, 1975, she married George L. Verost in Winchester, VA, who survives at home.
She was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Philipsburg, PA where she was a dedicated and active member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was an integral part of the church’s very successful annual pierogi sale. She enjoyed teaching and sharing this skill with many others over the years. She was always happy to help with the church’s annual fall bazaar.
Nancy was a quiet and soft spoken person and liked by all who met her. She was kind and caring, always thinking of others before herself.
For many years she had numerous people who entrusted her to clean their homes. Their trust in her was evident by the key ring she held tightly in her possession with the keys to all of their homes. She looked forward to seeing these long time friends weekly as much as they enjoyed seeing her.
Nancy enjoyed family holidays (especially ones with Christmas presents and birthday cakes), puzzle books, jigsaw puzzles, and shopping for bargains. She found pleasure in watching the deer and other wildlife that wandered into her backyard. But most of all, she treasured every single moment spent with her family, visiting with each of her daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren.
She was a great cook, and each of us has a memory of our favorite dish or dessert. Our family meals of these times spent with her will never be forgotten.
In later years, she and her husband traveled to every state, including Hawaii and Alaska, and went on cruises as well as a trip to Rome, Italy.
While Nancy’s memory of all of our times together would fade with this disease, we are blessed knowing that we will remember her always.
The small things made her happy and that is the true grace of this person we were so fortunate to call daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
In addition to her husband of 49 years, she is survived by four daughters she lovingly called “my girls”, LuAnn Narehood Shifter (David) of Keewaydin, PA; Barbara Verost Morrison (Robert) of Crescent, PA; Cathy Verost (Iain Macleod) of Oak Bluffs, MA; Julie Verost (Scott Hershowitz) of Oak Bluffs, MA; her two precious grandchildren, Kaitlin Morrison of Crescent, PA and Robert Morrison, Fort Novosel, AL; sister in law, Loretta Hugar, of Montgomery, PA, sister-in-law Nancy Kovalchick (Jack) of Philipsburg, PA and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was the last of her generation, having been preceded in death by her parents, brother Thomas L. Hugar and wife Pat of Pittsburgh, PA; brother Max D. Hugar of Montgomery, PA; sister, Jeanette G. (Hugar) Larson and husband Gustave of Hyde, PA and a nephew Michael Larson of Hyde, PA.
We wish for you to think of your fondest memory of Nancy and hold it in your heart. She will reside in ours forever.
The family would also like to extend their thanks to the staff in the Stanton Wing of Centre Care for their kind and compassionate care given to Nancy during her stay.
Viewing will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Wednesday, August 21, 2024; and on Thursday, August 22, 2024, from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 719 E. Spruce St., Philipsburg.

Interment will be in Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery, RD Philipsburg.
