Ben was my uncle. My wife Ellen and I used to stop by to visit him in Hawk Run occasionaly. He really enjoyed talking, although most of it was complaining. He bragged about his step son and how proud he was of him. Aunt Betty, his wife, was always gracious. I learned some things from listening to him that I would like to share with others. If you knew Ben, you know he had a speech impediment. He told me about how difficult it was for him in grade school. The other kids used to mock him. He suffered all through grade school. How cruel and demeaning. I remember when I was about 10 years old, and he was maybe 18, he came to live with us while he went to a bricklayers trade school in Belle Vernon, PA. He was funny and always played with my brother John and me. Then when he finished trade school, he left to return to Hawk Run. He was a good man with a good heart. God be with you Uncle Ben. Our sympathies to the remaining family.
Barb Patrick Shedlock
Our prayers and thoughts go out to all Bens Family. The Patrick’s have lost a friend and good neighbor. He has always been part of our lives. He was always outside working on a project and if we had a project going he would be there and offer to help. What a guy! If I did not see him for a year or so and met him in the Post Office or working in his yard as I walked home, he would say “hey Barb how you doing ?” and then we would talk for an hour. He always knew which Patrick he was talking to. My Mom would worry I was gone so long, id say ” I stopped to talk to Benny” He literally knew everyone in town and treated everyone the same kind way. He had a big heart and would help anyone with anything. He was one of a kind, a wonderful man. God Bless You Benny and reward you for all your good deeds and Bless your dear soul. We will miss you. Till we meet again, Barb and all the Patricks.
