John Louis Soltis, Jr.
John Louis Soltis, Jr., 85, of Clearfield PA and formerly of Hawk Run, PA passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Clearfield, PA.
He was the son of the late John L., Sr. & Mary (Verost) Soltis, born on July 31, 1928 in Hawk Run, PA. He married the former Norma Ara Wilsoncroft on April 21, 1953 in Winchester, VA. She preceded him in death on March 30, 2013.
He was a member of Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Hawk Run, PA. John was an Army veteran of the Korean War and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Louis Jenkins Post #3450 in Philipsburg, PA. He was also a member of the Jednota Lodge, Branch 134 in Grassflat, PA. He was employed for thirty-eight years with the Philipsburg A & P supermarket until its closing and had worked at various other area businesses until retiring.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by: two sisters, Mary Howe and Margaret Stonebraker; and a brother, James Soltis.
John is survived by: two daughters, Anna Marie English & her husband David of Emporium, PA and Amy Lynn Lockey & her husband James of Hawk Run, PA; a son, John L. “Buddy” Soltis, III & his wife Phyllis of (Gearhartville) RD Philipsburg, PA; three sisters, Josephine Soltis of Hawk Run, PA, Delores “Toots” Sudik of Hawk Run, PA, Marcella Hugney & her husband Marvin of Hawk Run, PA, and Annetta Yingling and her husband William of RD Phillipsburg, PA; and two brothers, Joseph E. Soltis, Sr. of Philipsburg, PA and Edward Soltis & his wife Barbara of Hawk Run, PA. He is also survived by: six grandchildren, Thaddeus English of Elizabeth City, NC, Carissa E. Bailey & her husband P.J. of Wellington, FL, Melissa Soltis & her fiance Joe Donato of St. Cloud, FL, Alyson Hokanson & her husband Chris of Culpeper, VA, Carl Barquist of Florida, and John Barquist of Hawk Run; a great-grandson, Zander English of Elizabeth City, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a future date at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Hawk Run, PA. Burial will be at the Stoneville Cemetery in RD West Decatur, PA.
There will be no public visitation.
