Julia A. Mohnal, 90, of (North) Philipsburg, died Monday, January 18, 2021, at Mountain Laurel Health & Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.
Julia was born on January 5, 1931, in the village of Chesterfield, Bigler Township, Clearfield County, a daughter of the late Matthew and Sophie (Zurus) Duke.
Julia was a 1948 graduate of the former Philipsburg High School; and a 1951 graduate of the former Philipsburg State General Hospital School of Nursing.
She spent entire working career as a Registered Nurse with the former Philipsburg State General Hospital. She retired in 1987 with over 30 years of service.
Julia was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Philipsburg; and served with the Altar-Rosary Society. She was a member of the former Philipsburg Business and Professional Women’s Club; she volunteered with the former Philipsburg Area Hospital and she was a member of the Philipsburg-Osceola Area High School Alumni Association.
Julia was married on July 19, 1952, in Houtzdale, to Frank Mohnal, who preceded her in death on February 7, 2016.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, George and Eugene Duke.
Julia is survived by one son, John M. Mohnal and his wife, Kathy, of Morrisdale, a daughter-in-law, Jean Mohnal, of Manassas, Virginia; one granddaughter, Melissa Mohnal, of Manassas, Va.; two sisters, Anna Marie Popernack, of Bobtown, (Pa.) and Elizabeth Yurky, of Philipsburg.
Julia’s son, Thomas J. Mohnal, who survived her at the time of her death, died on February 10, 2021.
Julia will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother; as well as a caregiver to much of the Philipsburg community during her many years of service as a Registered Nurse at the Philipsburg Hospital. She took care of many of the kids that her sons, John and Tom, grew up with that were in the hospital, as well as us two boys who got hurt riding those dirt bikes she was so against. She was always there cheering us on from the stands at our many baseball games and wrestling matches. She would come to our defense no matter what because in her eyes her boys could do no wrong. We will remember how proud she was of the vegetables she grew in her garden and how happy she was to share them. She loved planting flowers around her house and took pride in her home. We will miss you deeply mom. We love you and may you rest in peace.
