Alda M. Marden
Alda M. Marden, 82, of Philipsburg, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, March 20, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.
Alda was born on January 26, 1939, in Dallastown, a daughter, of the late George H. and L. Mae (Bream) Henry.
Alda was a 1956 graduate of Dallastown High School. Following high school, she received an associate degree from York Junior College, now known as York College of Pennsylvania. She then received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Tulsa.
Early in her working career, Alda accepted a substitute teaching position with the Pinellas County Schools in Florida. Alda put her working career on hold to be a dedicated mother and homemaker. Later in her working career, she was employed as a tax preparer with H&R Block and PA Tax Doctors, both of Philipsburg.
Ever since she was in high school, Alda was a dedicated member of the Girl Scouts. As an adult she was an active volunteer and held a position as a District Trainer. Alda received numerous awards and accolades during her time with the Girl Scouts that ultimately led to her reception of a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Alda was married on May 12, 1979, in Mercersburg, to Rev. Norman L. Marden, who preceded her in death on July 16, 2007.
She was also preceded in death by three sisters: Jeanne Weidner, Mary Hall and Nancy Hudock.
Alda is survived by two daughters, Johnna Huzzard, of York and Erica Helwig, of Philipsburg; five grandchildren: Melissa Stonesifer and her husband, Darin, of Spring Grove, (Pa.), Brian Ellis, of Rapid City, South Dakota, A1C Brandon Ellis, Kunson AFB, South Korea, Norman W. Marden and Tim Marden and his wife, Elizabeth, all of Lebanon; two great-grandchildren, Brighton and Allison Stonesifer; two brothers, John Henry and his wife, Joanne, of Lancaster and Fred Henry, of DeLand, Florida; and numerous other extended family members.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 24, 2021, from 6 to 8 pm, at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 719 E. Spruce Street, Philipsburg.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at 1 pm, at Mount Rose Cemetery, 1502 Mt. Rose Ave., York, Pa., with Rev. Randy Hughes, officiating. .
