Duane H. Long Sr.
Duane H. Long, Sr., 74, of Gearhartville, RD Philipsburg, died Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at UPMC Altoona.
Duane was born on August 8, 1950, in (Gearhartville) RD Philipsburg, a son of the late Edward Theodore Long, Sr. and Mary E. (Burton) Long.
He was a 1968 graduate of the Philipsburg – Osceola Area High School.
Duane was employed with multiple area businesses throughout his working career. Most would remember him as a service station attendant with the former Christoff Oil Company and with Nittany Oil Company.
Duane was a member of the gFree Church, (Gearhartville) RD Philipsburg; and a past member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Philipsburg. He was an active member of the Moshannon Valley YMCA and a volunteer with the former Philipsburg State General Hospital. Among his favorite pastimes, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and watching baseball and football games on TV. During his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and going out to Camp CLR out at “Blackie.”
Duane was married on October 23, 1971, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Philipsburg, to the former Martha “Jane” Buck. Jane preceded him in death on October 4, 2023.
He was also preceded in death by three sisters: Florence E. Hamer (and her husband, Harold), Genevieve M. Kennedy (and her husband, Harold) and Doris A. Crain; and one brother, Edward T. Long, in addition to his parents and wife, Jane.
Duane is survived by a son, Duane H. Long, Jr. and his wife, Chrissy, of Philipsburg; and Melanie L. Stiner and her husband, Chuck (Jr.), of Wallaceton; four grandchildren: Jordan E. Stiner and his wife, Karina, of Gearhartville, Adam L. Stiner, of Eugene, Oregon, Devin M. Long and Corbin L. Long, both of Philipsburg; two great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Richard Crain, of Gearhartville; and numerous other extended family members.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 23, 2024, at 11 am, at the gFree Church, 305 Keystone Hill Road, Philipsburg, with Pastor Noel Meyers, officiating.
The family will receive guests at the church on Monday from 9 am until the time of the service.
