Randy L. Killion
Randy L. Killion, 65, of Winburne, was welcomed at the gates of Heaven on July 31, 2024, by his wife, Debra S. Killion, who proceeded him in death on Sept 5, 2019. Randy and Debra began their eternal Harley ride together on the streets of gold.
Randy was born on July 1, 1959, in Philipsburg, a son of the late Jack R. Killian; and Elva Mae (Quick) Killian, of Morrisdale.
Randy was a 1977 graduate of West Branch Area High School. He would go on to
attend the IUP Municipal Police Academy and graduate Act 120 certified on April 23, 1982. In 1999 Randy completed the Pennsylvania State Police Certified Firearms Instructor training program in Hershey, Pa; and he would go on to provide firearms qualification services to numerous active duty and retired law enforcement officers. Randy was still actively serving as a Certified Law Enforcement Firearms Instructor at the time of his passing.
Randy was employed for most of his working career with the Decatur Township Police Department. He was appointed Chief of Police on September 5, 1980 and would serve in this position until he retired on October 31, 2009 after 29 1/2 total years of service.
Following his retirement from Decatur Twp., Randy completed the Penn State University Pennsylvania Deputy Sheriff Academy in May 2010 and worked as a deputy sheriff with the Clearfield County Sheriff’s Office until November 2019. Randy received a Commendation for Bravery in the Face of Extreme Danger Award on April 14, 2016, for his actions in the line of duty.
Randy was elected as a Cooper Township Supervisor for two terms, serving from January 2012 through December 2023. Part of his responsibilities as supervisor included serving as a board member on the Morris-Cooper Regional Police Commission.
Randy was also a Cooper Township Municipal Authority Board member during
both of his elected terms and remained on the authority board at the time of his death.
During his 40 years in law enforcement and 12 years as an elected supervisor, Randy formed many close friendships and left lasting memories on countless others with his quick-witted humor and unwavering integrity. In addition to being a committed husband, dedicated father, and proud grandfather, this is how Randy would want to be remembered.
Randy married the late Dolly A. Yarger, of Sanborn, on June 28, 1980. The pair welcomed a daughter, Stephanie, in 1984, who instantly became, and remained, the apple of Randy’s eye. His love and devotion to his role as a father was evident to everyone he met. Randy beamed with pride as a father and that beam shined even brighter when Stephanie welcomed her son, Caleb Hudson, in 2009.
On May 27, 2005, in Philipsburg, Randy married the former Debra A. Seager. Randy gained a son, Will Cantara, from this union. The love Randy and Debra had for each other offered a new beginning for the pair. They enjoyed many activities together; but, none more than their motorcycle rides and watching Caleb play baseball. Their life together was abruptly cut short when Debra went to be with the Lord following a courageous battle with Leukemia.
Randy is survived by his beloved daughter, Stephanie L. Beyer and her husband, Eli, of Port Matilda; his loving son, William Cantara and his wife, Shraddha, of Lansdale, Pa; his pride and joy, grandson, Caleb Hudson. As much as Randy loved watching Caleb play baseball it is possible that he was even more fond of sharing Caleb’s accomplishments with everyone he encountered. An adored granddaughter, Peyton Witherite, always held a special place in Randy’s heart. She provided him with great
joy. Randy is also survived by his grandchildren: Michael, Drake and Isaiah Witherite and Andrew Bass, all of Morrisdale; Alexa Beyer, of Huntingdon; a sister, Joyce Killion, of Houtzdale; two brothers, Larry Killion, of Morrisdale and Tom Killion and his wife, Hecla,of Sandy Ridge; a sister-in-law, Michelle Spangler and her husband, Cory of Grantville, Pa, along with numerous other extended family members.
A celebration of Randy’s life will be held on August 24, 2024, at 4pm, at the Lanse Evangelical Free Church, 255 Cotohisc Road, Lanse. The family asks that you come with a happy story, memory or picture that embodies Randy’s memory to share if comfortable.
