Born on January 4, 1930 in (South Philipsburg) RD Philipsburg, PA, he was the son of the late Carlisle & Josephine (Hugg) Harkless.
He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 64 years, Ruth (Bryan) Harkless, who survives at home. They married on September 8, 1950 in Osceola Mills, PA.
Mr. Harkless was of the Christian faith. He enjoyed fishing, camping and hunting in his free time. Andy and his family often vacationed in Philipsburg when his children were younger. He could be seen carrying a shepherd’s staff with numerous children trailing behind him on their way to Little Dutch Swimming Hole. He was employed by General Tire, and retired after 40 years of service.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by: two sisters, Kathleen Dullen and Janet Hummel; two brothers, Charles and Duane Harkless; and one granddaughter, Sara Baer, his beloved Angel.
In addition to his wife, Andy is survived by: three daughters, Ruth Ann Baer & her husband Michael “Mike” of Thomasville, NC, Gloria Escajeda & her husband Richard “Rick” of Thomasville, NC and Mary Jane Beck & her husband Alan of Thomasville, NC; a son Andrew L. Harkless & his wife Donna of New Philadelphia, OH; two brothers, Donald Harkless & his wife Mary of Cuyahoga Falls, OH and Richard Harkless & his wife Barb of Akron, OH; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 E. Spruce Street, Philipsburg, PA; with Reverend William Fowler officiating. Burial will be at the Philipsburg Cemetery in Philipsburg, PA.
Friends and relatives will be received on Monday, June 30, 2014 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 East Spruce Street, Philipsburg, PA.
