William R. Fowler
Pastor William R. Fowler, 87, of (Hudson) RD Philipsburg, died Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on February 3, 1937, at the family homestead in Hudson, a son of the late Lyle and Harriet Lucy (Blake) Fowler.
He was a 1955 graduate of the former Philipsburg High School. Following a calling to serve the Lord while attending Sylvan Hills Christian Camp as a teenage, he furthered his education and graduated in 1960 from Johnson Bible College, Knoxville, Tennessee. It was during his time in Knoxville at College that he met the love of his life, the former Myra G. Woodson. They were married at the Bible College Chapel on April 6, 1960.
During the early years of his ministry while he was still in college, he served churches in the Jellico, Tennessee and Artemus, Kentucky areas. He then accepted the position of Minister with the First Christian Church in Dixon, Illinois. He relocated back to Pennsylvania and served the First Christian Church in Carnegie, (Pa). While in the Pittsburgh area, Pastor Fowler returned to school and received his Master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh. While in Pittsburgh, he also held a part time position as a social worker. He then had the opportunity to relocate back to his hometown; and he served as Pastor of the Philipsburg First Church of Christ from 1972 until his retirement in 2002. During this time, he also held a part time position as a school bus driver with the Philipsburg-Osceola Area School District during the late 1970’s into the early 1980’s. He was also a member of the Philipsburg Kiwanis and the Philipsburg Ministerium.
Pastor Fowler is survived by his wife, Myra, at home; a daughter, Christy G. Quick and her husband, Tim, of (Gearhartville) RD Philipsburg; two sons, Gary L. Fowler and his wife, Christine, of Hudson and David L. Fowler, at home with Myra, in Hudson; five grandchildren: Matthew A. Fowler and his wife, Erin, Daniel R. Fowler and his wife, Danielle, Chelsea G. Quick, Nathaniel J. Quick and his fiancee, Lara B. Sharpless and Caleb D. Quick; one great-grandson, Theodore J. Fowler, (son of Daniel and Danielle); one sister, Judy Rothrock and her husband, Ron, of Philipsburg; two brothers, Pastor John T. “Jack” Fowler and his wife, Marilyn, of Waynesburg, Pa and David A. Fowler of (Gearhartville) RD Philipsburg; and numerous other extended family members.
Pastor Fowler was preceded in death by a brother, Lyle R. Fowler, in addition to his parents.
A Family Directed funeral service (open to the public) will be held on Monday, August 5,2024, at 2 pm, at the First Church of Christ, 1437 Tyrone Pike, Philipsburg.
Visitation will be on Sunday, August 4, 2024, from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm, at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 719 E. Spruce Street, Philipsburg; and on Monday at the church from 1 pm until the time of the service.
Interment will be in Philipsburg Cemetery
