Elizabeth Jane “Betty” Dzwonkowski
Elizabeth Jane “Betty” Dzwonkowski, 103, formerly of Philipsburg, died Saturday, November 9, 2024, at The Oaks at Pleasant Gap.
Betty was born on October 7, 1921, in Philipsburg, a daughter of the late Harry A. and Sarah J. (Bean) Robins.
She was a graduate of the former Philipsburg High School.
Betty was married on June 22, 1940, in Winchester, Virginia, to Joseph S. Dzwonkowski, who preceded her in death in 1988.
Early in her working career, she was employed with the former Centre City Market. She was then employed for most of her career with the Philipsburg – Osceola Area School District as a cafeteria cashier. During her time at P-O, she was affectionately known as “Gram,” by the students at the school. She retired after 33 years of service with the school district.
Betty was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Philipsburg; where she was also a member of the E.C.W. and the Altar Guild. Betty was also a member of the former Philipsburg Country Club.
She was an avid golfer and affectionately known as “Betty D” by the other members at the club. Her hobbies also included working on crossword puzzles; playing cards, especially Bridge and Pinochle; and sending cards out to family and friends for every occasion.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph; and two brothers, Charles and Harry “Chickie” Robins.
She is survived by two daughters, Helen Dixon and her husband, Chalmer “Mouse,” of Philipsburg and Sarah A. “Sally” Spanogle and her husband, William H. “Bill,” Jr.; six grandchildren: Dave Dixon (Duanna Billotte), Suzie Peck (Ron), Jen Rockey (Randy), Todd Dixon (Nikki), Chris Breon (Ron) and Tracy Branthoover (Gerald “Chip”); two step-grandchildren, Terri Spanogle and Tracy McAllister (Tom); thirteen great-grandchildren; twenty-two great-great grandchildren; and numerous other extended family members.
A private memorial service was held at the convenience of the family.
Burial was in Philipsburg Cemetery.

Betty’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of The Oaks for the love and the care that they gave to Betty for over the past eight years that she lived at the community.
