Donald L. Catherine

Don was born on December 27, 1934, in Philipsburg, a son of the late Octavius “Toby” an Dorothy “Dot” (Whitehead) Catherine.
He was a 1952 graduate of the former Philipsburg High School.
Don served with the US Army from 1957-1963.
Don enjoyed a lifelong career in the building materials / lumber industry. He started out his career with Claster’s Building Materials, in Philipsburg; and he was ultimately promoted to the role of sales manager. After twenty-five years with Claster’s, Don accepted a similar position with Lezzer Lumber Co., of Curwensville. He retired from Lezzer’s after twenty-three years of service.
Don was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Philipsburg. He was also a member of a number of local organizations that included: Life Member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge & Country Club, Lodge #1173, Philipsburg, the Philipsburg Historical Society, Life Member of the Hope Fire Co., Philipsburg, Life Member of the Sons of Italy, Clearfield, the Philipsburg and Tyrone Drum and Bugle Corps and he was a member and past officer of the CLR Hunting Camp, (Black Moshannon), where he served as camp secretary for 40 years.
Don was married on November 16, 1968, in Philipsburg, to the former Dixie L. Davis, who survives at home.
He is also survived by four nieces: Susan (Pryde) Wall, her husband, Chip, and their children: Katie (Collin) Reno, Ryan Wall and Matthew Wall; Shirley (Davis) Rowles; Gloria Baxter; Jean Ann (Valenza) Rubino, her husband, David, and their daughter, Lauren; four nephews: Joseph (Rita) Valenza, Ronald (Nancy) Valenza, Richard (Jaret) Valenza and Denny Davis; a sister-in-law, Delores Valenza; a brother-in-law, Thomas R. Pryde; a brother and sister-in-law, Dennis (Shirley) Davis, of Florida; and numerous other extended family members.
Don was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Rose Pryde and one nephew, Thomas L. Pryde; in addition to his parents.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 400 S. 4th. Street, Philipsburg, on Saturday, January 4, 2024, at 11 am, with Rev. Matthias Rendon, OFM, celebrant.
The family will receive guests at the church on Saturday from 10am until the time of the service.
Interment with Military Honors will be at Philipsburg Cemetery.
