Guy R. Tiracorda
Guy R. Tiracorda, 77, of (Gearhartville) RD Philipsburg, died Saturday, July 13, 2024, at his residence.
Guy was born on August 27, 1946, in Philipsburg, a son of the late Roland G. and Constance “Connie” (Grasso) Tiracorda.
He was a 1964 graduate of the Moshannon Valley High School. Following high school, he enrolled at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he was a member of the wrestling program. He then transferred to the Pennsylvania State University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. While attending Penn State, he served with the Army ROTC program and graduated as a commissioned 2nd. Lieutenant. He went on to serve with the Army during the Vietnam War era.
He was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and the B.P.O. Elks Lodge & Country Club, Lodge 1173, both of Philipsburg.
During his working career, Guy was employed as a civil engineer with the Pennsylvania Dept. of Transportation until his retirement in 2005. Following his retirement from PennDOT, Guy accepted a position with FEMA as a Disaster Project Officer. During his service with FEMA, he worked on just shy of 50 natural disasters from all across the United States.
Guy was preceded in death by one brother-in-law, William C. “Bill” Vassey, in addition to his parents.
He is survived by one son, Aaron G. Tiracorda his wife, Amy, and three grandchildren: Zachary A., Isaac L. and Jacob R. Tiracorda, all of Kylertown; five sisters: Marie Vassey, of Mechanicsburg, Angela Kauffman and her husband, John, of Gainesville, Virginia, Natalie Beede and her husband, David, of Port Matilda, Jan McKenna and her husband, William “Bill,” of State College and Jill Tiracorda, of Thorton, Pa; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
Guy was genuinely liked by all. He had a great sense of humor and a wonderful smile. His wry knack for storytelling could make you laugh.
As a boy he enjoyed playing baseball, wrestling and competing in horse shows with his beloved Caesar. Later, his interests moved on to Pontiac GTOs and Buick Rivieras.
He liked to read, study history, play blackjack, bet on the NY Giants and was a lifelong Yankees fan.
He was an excellent coach and teacher; and his greatest joy was the accomplishments of his son and grandsons.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, July 19, 2024, at 11 am, at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 400 S. 4th. Street, Philipsburg, with Rev. Matthias Rendon, O.F.M., celebrant.
Visitation will be on Thursday, July 18, 2024, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm, at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 719 E. Spruce Street, Philipsburg.
An B.P.O. Elks Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, at 7:45 pm, at the funeral home.
Military Honors will be accorded at church by the Philipsburg American Legion Honor Guard immediately following the Funeral Mass.
Interment will be in Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery, Madera.
