Tammy Chaplin Smith
My sincere condolences to the entire Barnett family, but especially to his children, Ron, Betsy and Lisa. I can't tell you how sad I was to hear about Rick. I will always remember him as the smiling, fun guy who had a great zest for life. I reflected back on the many good times that I shared with him in the "good old days", and I know how special he was to you and all that were fortunate enough to have known him. I am sorry for your loss, and I will pray for your healing. May God grant him peace and you the strength to endure this tradgedy.
With love to all,

Rick frequently delivered Mom's medicines from Hospice just a little over a year ago...he was so concerned and so good to us.

We were saddened to hear of Rick’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Barnett family. Rick was a good friend, classmate, teammate, and fellow Slabtowner. Those who knew Rick also knew that he was the life of the party and really enjoyed bringing people together. I recall he organized our various road trips to places like Rehoboth Beach, New York City, & Ft. Lauderdale and put together countless parties and gatherings. We’ll certainly miss Rick’s smiling face. May God bless the Barnett family at this difficult time.

We are so sorry about Rick. I can remember when Jeff came to Grandma Bessie's, and Rick, the Huston boys, Drew Fleck and Jeff would go to Parkie and play baseball. That was a lot of summers ago. We have you all in our prayers and our condolence goes to your family,Ron and Betsy and also to Rick's family. God Bless!

It would be impossible to determine which loss is worse: A mother losing a son OR A wife losing her husband. The loss to both is devastating. Having suffered both types of loss, I know that mere words are of no help.
I knew not "Barney" or his wife, but have been a close friend of Barney's mother and father. Betsy was a classmate of my late wife and a friendship began when my wife was alive. I have continued that friendship with Betsy and Ron since my wife was called home by God.
I wish I were closer and could give Ron and Betsy a heartfelt hug for the loss of their son.
Gabi, your mother in law has kept me informed of your kindness and caring during your beloved husband's last days. No mate could have asked for more. I send the kindest thoughts possible for your solace..

Rick was the one and only! Some things never change . . . like in High School, he liked to have a good time. The same goes for today. In High School he always smiled, no matter what his mood. The same goes for today and that smile :^) became infectious. If you knew him, you loved him. Rick was kind, geniune and he will be truly missed. He wasn't going to come to our 'Class Reunion' 2 years ago. I'm glad he had a change of heart. Like in High School, he stole the show & entertained us all.
To Gabi and the Barnett family, please know you are in my thoughts and prayers today and in the days to come. Hugs to you all!

Rick has always been a great friend. Having known him and his family all my life, I have so many great memories of the Barnetts, all of them, especially Rick and Lisa. Just living around the block from one another, we played together growing up as well as spending time much time together far into our school years. Rick always had the greatest sense of humor. He could always make you laugh, was never down and loved by all who knew him. Even last Saturday when Lisa and I visited him, he was still cracking us up. We were reminiscing with him about all the great times we all had over the years together. As heavy as my heart is right now, I believe it may be a litttle lighter just knowing what a nice visit Lisa and I had with Rick and had spoken our last words "we love you Rick, we love you Barney". We have always loved him and always will. And to Gaby, Ron, Betsy, Lisa and all of the family, please know you are in our deepest thoughts and prayers. Wishing you comfort and peace.

Words are hard to find to express my sympathy to Gabi, Rick's parents, his children and family except to say that Rick will be missed tremendously. Like others I will never forget his smile and the laughter that he brought to all of us golfers. His personality always shined thru even in difficult times.

Rick had a kind heart and a wonderful welcoming smile. In all the time I knew him he always had something nice to a say to you, about you. I wish I could fully express the memories I have of the last few times I spoke with him. He was so happy ….excited about his life with Gabi and feeling loved by his family and friends. I remember smiling and being happy for him, he was so deserving. I will miss him… and when do, I will remember the love he had for his family….for his friends. My sincere and deepest sympathy are with you....all of you.

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen
