Mary Lou Martin
Mary Lou (Crosby) Martin, 67, of RD Philipsburg and formerly of Connellsville, died February 27, 2023, at her residence.
Mary Lou was born on June 19, 1955, in Connellsville, a daughter of the late Leonard E. and Ruth E. (Kerfoot) Crosby.
Mary Lou was a 1973 graduate of Connellsville Area High School. She received her bachelor’s degree from The Pennsylvania State University, University Park Campus. Later in life, she received her MBA from Keiser University eCampus.
Following graduation from high school, Mary Lou enlisted and served in the US Air Force. During her service, her assignments included Andrews AFB, Turkey and Hickam AFB, Hawaii.
After her discharge from the Air Force, Mary Lou accepted a position as a corrections officer with the California Dept. of Corrections. After 11 years with the Calif. DOC, Mary Lou moved back to Pennsylvania and accepted a corrections officer position with the Pennsylvania Dept. of Corrections. Later in her career, Mary Lou accepted a position with the State College branch office of the Defense Financing and Accounting Service, an agency within the US Dept. of Defense.
Mary Lou was an avid reader and she loved to travel. Her adventures included a safari in Africa; trips to the United Kingdom, Southeast Asia and most of the United States.
Mary Lou is survived by a sister, Barbara J. Murray, of Connellsville; a niece, Lisa Leonard; three great-nieces; one great-nephew; four great-great nieces; three great-great nephews; her dear friends: Lucy, Sandy, Toni and Verone; and her two beloved cats, Lily and Simba.
