James R. “Jim” Huber
James R. “Jim” Huber, 83, of Chester Hill, died Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at Mountain Laurel Health and Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.
Jim was born on January 29, 1939, in Houtzdale, a son of the late Emil and Martha (Courtot) Huber.
He was a 1958 graduate of the Moshannon Valley School District. Soon after his graduation from high school, Jim enlisted and served with the US Army.
Jim was employed as a mechanic for most of his career at the former (North) Philipsburg General Cigar plant. Following the closure of the plant, Jim accepted a custodial position with the Philipsburg – Osceola Area School District. He was employed with the school district until his retirement.
Jim was married on June 27, 1970, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Philipsburg, to the former Janetta J. Chubb, who survives at home.
He is also survived by two daughters, Penny L. Hynd and her husband, Thomas, of Osceola Mills and Lisa M. Buchwitz and her husband, Dale, of Grampian; a son, James N. Huber, and his wife, Deann, of Yuma, Arizona; 12 grandchildren: Brian Wriglesworth, Morgan Hynd, Megan (Meagan) Hynd, Gordon (Samantha) Buchwitz, Kristina Buchwitz, Sarah Buchwitz, Dalton Buchwitz, Katarina (Sam) Irizarry, Samantha Huber, Emily Huber, Clara Huber and Alexander Huber; and numerous nieces nephews and other extended family members.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Ethan C. Huber; three sisters: Cora Boulton, Louise Harsomchuck and Anna Mae Smeal; and five brothers: Emil “Dutch” Huber, Jr., Karl Huber, William “Bill” Huber, John “Jack” Huber and Charles “Chick” Huber.
Jim previously attended the Evangelical Baptist Church in Osceola Mills. He was currently a member of the (South) Philipsburg Christian & Missionary Alliance Church.
Jim was an accomplished bowler. During his younger years, he bowled with a team known as the Houtzdale Jet Set in a mixed/couples league at the Clearfield Lanes. Jim was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He also loved to go hunting and fishing.
A funeral service will be held at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 719 E. Spruce St., Philipsburg, on Sunday, November 13, 2022, at 2 pm, with Pastor Rich McCahan and Pastor Howard Cilento, officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from Noon until the time of the service.
Military Honors will be accorded at the funeral home by the Moshannon Valley Independent Honor Guard.
