Charles E. Mencer, JR.

Charles E. Mencer, Jr., 81, of Philipsburg, died Monday, April 11, 2016 at Windy Hill Village, P.S.L., Philipsburg. Born March 20, 1935 in Philipsburg, he was a son of the late Charles E., Sr. and Mary Josephine (Gregor) Mencer.

Mr. Mencer was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Philipsburg, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Holy Family Council #8701, Morrisdale , and was a 4’Th degree member of the Pope John Paul II Assembly of Clearfield. He had served in the Army and was a member of the American Legion, John Ashley Dennis Post # 437 and the AMVETS, Post # 159, both of Philipsburg. He was a life member of the Hope Fire Company and the B.P.O. Elks, # 1173, both of Philipsburg and was a member of the Society of Slovak Working Men of Osceola Mills.

Mr. Mencer was employed with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Transportation as a heavy equipment operator until his retirement.

He was a 1955 graduate of the Philipsburg High School.

On February 27, 1960 in Osceola Mills, he married the former Betty Ann Kozak, who preceded him in death on June 30, 2009.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Josephine Catherine and a brother, John F. Mencer, Sr.

Surviving is a son, Charles E. Mencer, III and his wife, Barbara of Hollidaysburg, three grandchildren , Julie Murray of Virginia ; Meg Monteforte and her husband, Matthew of North Carolina; Timothy Mencer and his fiancee, Krista Smith of Philipsburg; and two great-grandchildren , Landyn Monteforte and Nora Mencer.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 15, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Philipsburg with Rev. John Gibbons as celebrant. Interment will follow at Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Philipsburg with military honors being accorded by members of the Moshannon Valley Independent Honor Guard.

Friends will be received on Thursday, April 14, 2016, from 4 until 8 p.m. at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, Philipsburg.

The rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. and an Elks memorial service held at 7 p.m., both on Thursday at the funeral home.
