Edith J. “Edie” Emanuelson

photo of Edith EmanuelsonEdith J. “Edie” Emanuelson, 90, of Lanse, died Thursday, September 22, 2016, in State College.

Born March 31, 1926, in Philipsburg, she was a daughter of the late Gilbert and Jennie (Linberg) Jacobson.

She was a graduate of the former Cooper Township High School.

Edith was a member of Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church (formerly known as Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran), Lanse.  Edith dearly loved her church; and she formerly served as a member of the WELCA (ladies group) and Altar Guild.  She was also a 50+ year member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Edie enjoyed putting together puzzles, crosswords, “circle the word” games and eating out at many of her favorite restaurants.  When visiting Edie, her guests would never leave the house without a cup of coffee and some goodies from her kitchen table.  Earlier in her life, Edie enjoyed camping in the RV, attending Penn State football games / tailgating, shopping and traveling.

Edith was married on December 27, 1947, at Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran in Lanse, to W. Marvin Emanuelson, who preceded her in death on November 19, 1977.

Edith is survived by one daughter, Carol, of Lanse; two grandchildren, Jena Marie Hosband and her husband Matt, of (Gray’s Woods) RD Port Matilda, and Chad Lee Diviney and his wife, Molly, of Drifting; three great-grandchildren: Carter Allen Hosband of (Gray’s Woods) RD Port Matilda, Anna Alisabeth and Abbigail Grace Diviney, of Drifting; a sister-in-law, Gloria Emanuelson, of Glastonbury, Connecticut; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Edith was the last of her generation.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters and their respective spouses, Helen Beegle and her husband, William and Elsie Johnson and her husband, Ted; two brothers and their respective spouses, Lewis Jacobson and his wife, Peg, and Albin “Fink” Jacobson and his wife, Gerry; a brother-in-law, Roger Emanuelson, and a brother-in-law and a sister-in-law, Bill Little and his wife, Carmen.

Edith was very proud of her Swedish heritage.

Visitation will be on Friday, September 23, 2016, from 6 to 9 pm at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 E. Spruce Street, Philipsburg.

A private family graveside service will be held at the Grassflat-Lanse Lutheran Cemetery, Grassflat, with Pastor Edward DeVore, Officiating.

The funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 E. Spruce Street, Philipsburg.
