Margaret Jane Bender

Margaret Jane Bender, 94, a resident of Windy Hill Village P.S.L., Philipsburg and formerly of Clearfield, died Monday, November 16, 2015 at Windy Hill Village.

Margaret was born in Clearfield on December 27, 1920, the oldest daughter of the late William and Elva (Gingery) Adams. She retired from Kurtz Brothers School Suppliers of Clearfield where she was a secretary for more than 25 years.

She also spent countless hours of teaching classes and operating Bender’s Ceramic Shop on Ogden Avenue in Clearfield. She was a very talented instructor and her students learned to produce beautiful creations with slip and paint. She also operated Bender’s Ham and Cheese stand with her husband at numerous fairs for over 20 years.

Margaret was a member of the West Side Methodist Church in Clearfield. She was also a member of N.O.N. of Clearfield for many years. She enjoyed playing cards and was a member of a card club that played for more than 40 years.

Margaret was married to Llewellyn O. Bender for 55 years. He preceded her in death on February 14, 1994.

She is survived by four sons, Donald Bender and his wife, Darlene of Bigler; Norman Bender and his wife, Susan of Philipsburg; Dennis Bender of Centre Hall; and Michael Bender and his wife, Eva Of Mifflinburg; ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Ellery Adams of Clearfield; and two sisters, Helen Freed of Telford, Pennsylvania and Mary Beightol of Clearfield.

A memorial service for Margaret will be held on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the chapel of Trinity United Methodist Church, 121 S. Front St., Philipsburg.

Memorial Contributions may be made to West Side United Methodist Church, 317 Nichols St., Clearfield, PA 16830 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Windy Hill Village for the exceptional care given to Margaret for the past two years.
