Karen Avanell Baney

Karen Avanell Baney, 69, of West Decatur, died Wednesday, November 23, 2016, at her residence.

Born March 1, 1947, in Sewickley, Pa., she was a daughter of the late James A. and Mary L. (Wynn) Gallaher.

She was married on June 6, 1964, to her best friend, James E. “Jim” Baney, whom preceded her in death on May 3, 2008.

Karen believed in a higher power.

Karen was employed with a number of area businesses throughout her career including the former: Pennshire Clothes, General Cigar, and Kent Sportswear.  She also owned / operated a residential cleaning service for 20 years, until her retirement.

She was a devoted homemaker, loving wife and mother.  She enjoyed a number of hobbies and activities that included: karaoke, yard sales, US Civil War history, antiques and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; her beloved son, James E. Baney, Jr.; and one granddaughter, April Elizabeth Wade.

She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth A. Wade, of Philipsburg, and Karen L. Woods, of West Decatur; two grandsons, James Curtis Wade and Joshua Shane Wade, both of Philipsburg; and a son-in-law, Dean Woods, West Decatur.

A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no public visitation.

The funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 E. Spruce Street, Philipsburg.
