Joel K. Maguire

Joel K. Maguire, 78, of Philipsburg, began his final journey into God’s Heavenly Kingdom on January 19, 2026, at 11:11 pm, after a battle with cancer and other medical complications.

Joel was the son of the late Robert W. Magwire and Mary Kay; and a grandson of the late Walter “Mollie” and Martha Magwire whom he resided with and was raised by.

Joel graduated from the Philipsburg – Osceola Area High School in 1965 where he served as the first ever Mountie Mascot.

After graduation, Joel furthered his career at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh before beginning a lifelong career using artistic abilities.

Born and raised in Philipsburg, Pa, Joel was known as the “Eternal Teenager” to many! His Irish good looks and masterful charm made him the local debonair bachelor for the first 50 years of his life.

Joel was a life long member of the Philipsburg Country Club and Elks Lodge #1173 where he spent many years perfecting his golf game and enjoying life long friendships over good food and Rolling Rock beer.

Joel retired his golf clubs and his “Charlie Harper lifestyle” when he met the love of his life, Faith Bordas Maguire, whom he wed on June 19, 1998. Together they raised 2 daughters, Mackenzie Copenhaver, of Philipsburg and Mollie Maguire, of Clearfield.

Joel became the “Girl Dad” and supported them in everything from softball and volleyball, rarely missing a game or match, to beaming with pride watching Mollie perform in many musical plays over the years.

Joel retired in December 2011 from Penn State University, Office of Physical Plan, where he spent years hand lettering signs and doors throughout campus until vinyl lettering took over. Although one of Joel’s favorite duties during his Penn State career was laying out & painting the end zones at Beaver Stadium while under the direction of Coach Joe Paterno.

Joel spent many years attending Penn State Football games as a season ticket holder from 1972 thru 2007 when he decided the warmth of his big chair at home over sitting on the cold bleachers at the stadium became more appealing.

One of Joel’s proudest moments was using his artistic abilities to help detail and pain the Big Santa in 2000 that was displayed at Cold Stream Dam until a windstorm ripped it apart on December 29, 2024.

Unfortunately, due to his medical condition he was unable to help paint the 2025 Santa which was displayed this year.

Joel is survived by his wife, daughters and a granddaughter, Marley Millinder. He is also survived by his mother in law, Victoria Bordas; brother-in-law, James J. Bordas; sisters in Law, Hope Bordas, Charity Bordas Granville and Patience (Brian) Bailey, all of Philipsburg; along with many nieces, nephews and friends that are like his brothers.

Joel was preceded in death by his father in law, James H. Bordas and his 2 black labs, Cutter and Koda.

At Joel’s request, there will be no public funeral service.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, Philipsburg.
