Samuel W. “Sam” Irvin, Jr.
Samuel W. “Sam” Irvin, Jr., 77, of Philipsburg, died Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Sam was born on March 7, 1949, in Philipsburg, a son of the late Samuel W. Irvin, Sr. and Kathryn (Galbraith) Irvin.
He was a 1967 graduate of the Philipsburg – Osceola Area High School. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the Pennsylvania State University in 1973.
Sam enjoyed a long and successful career in labor relations and human resources that spanned the U.S. Early in his career, he relocated to California and was employed with Mitsubishi Cement and Kaiser Permanente. He relocated to Florida and was employed as a labor negotiator and human resource officer for the unions representing the Broward County Fire Department and Police Benevolent Association. He was also employed as a risk manager for the City of Coconut Creek, Florida. Later in his career, he relocated back to Philipsburg and accepted a position as the human resources director for Cornell Corrections (now GEO). He remained with Cornell until his retirement in 2011.
Sam was a member of the B.P.O.Elks Lodge and Country Club, Lodge #1173, Philipsburg and a past board member of the former Philipsburg Country Club.
He was married on September 5, 2003, at Grace United Methodist Church, Philipsburg, to the former Georgia A. Lucas, who survives at home.
He is also survived by two daughters, Alison Serian and her husband, Justin, of Lakeworth, Florida and Morgan Hall and her husband, Russell, of Delray Beach, Florida; three grandchildren: Mason and Charlotte Serian and Remy Hall; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 11 am, at Grace United Methodist Church, 912 E. Pine Street, Philipsburg, with Pastor Steven Cowfer, officiating.
The family will receive guests on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, from 6 until 8 pm, at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 719 E. Spruce Street, Philipsburg.
Interment will be in Philipsburg Cemetery.
