William “Bill” Belko

William “Bill” Belko, 83, of RD Philipsburg, died Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at his residence surrounded by his family.

Bill was born on May 17, 1943, at home in the Cold Stream area of Philipsburg; a son of the late John and Pauline (Lucas) Belko.

He was a 1961 graduate of the Philipsburg – Osceola Area High School. Following high school, he enlisted in the US Air Force and served during the Vietnam War era. After his military service enlistment was completed, he returned to school and graduated from the Williamsport Area Community College.Image of the US Air Force Seal

Bill was employed throughout his working career as a heavy equipment mechanic. He retired in 2003 with over 30 years of service with Beckwith Machinery of Clearfield.

He was a 60 year member of the Clearfield American Legion, Post #6; a 55 year member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 66, Pittsburgh; and a Life Member of the Philipsburg B.P.O. Elks Lodge and Country Club, Lodge #1173.  

Among his favorite pastimes, Bill was a fantastic gardener, an excellent cook, loved working on crossword puzzles and he was an avid Steelers and Penn State Football fan. He was a longtime member of the Nittany Lion Club and season ticket holder. He enjoyed going to postseason bowl games; the most memorable being the 1987 Fiesta Bowl for the NCAA National Championship. On Sundays, you’d catch him listening to the “Sunday Morning Polka Party” with “The Big Moose”. 

Bill was married on June 5, 1976, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Morrisdale, to the former Melissa A. Ollinger, who survives at home.

He is also survived by a son, James “Jim” Belko and his wife, Amy (Rider), and their two children, Zoe and Ava, all of Warriors Mark; a sister, Betty Sicks, of Philipsburg; a brother, David Belko and his wife, Stephanie, of Nokomis, Florida; and numerous other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters: Verna Walker, Pauline Belko, Mary Shedlock and Marge Lewis; five brothers: John, George, Edward, Andrew and Robert Belko; and an infant brother, George.

A memorial service will be held at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 719 E. Spruce Street, Philipsburg, on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at Noon, with Rev. Melinda McKonly, officiating.

The family will receive guests at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10 am until the time of the service.

An Elks Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11:30 am.

Military Honors will be accorded by the Clearfield American Legion / VFW Honor Guard on Tuesday at the funeral home following the memorial service.
