Albert E. “Ed” Wood
Albert E. “Ed” Wood, 78, of “Hudson” Philipsburg, PA passed away on Friday, August 23, 2013 at the Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College, PA.
He was the son of the late Albert & Isabel (Sankey) Wood, born on May 27, 1935 in Philipsburg, PA. He married the former JoAnn Mayhue on January 1, 1954 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Philipsburg, PA. She survives at home.
Mr. Wood was a life-long member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Philipsburg, PA. He was also a member of the B.P.O. Elks #1173, a life member of the Reliance Fire Company, a member of the Moshannon Lodge #391 Free & Accepted Masons, all of Philipsburg; he was also a member of the Williamsport Consistory, the Osceola Mills Community Historical Foundation, the Central District Firemans Association and the Life Underwriters Association.
Until his retirement in 2012, Mr. Wood was an insurance salesman for Baltimore Life and GBU Insurance Companies. He was a 1953 graduate of the Philipsburg High School.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded by: a sister, Shirley Schnarrs; and an infant grandson.
Along with his wife, Mr. Wood is survived by: three daughters, Cheryl A. Smith & her husband Earl R. of Sandy Ridge, PA, Kathie Dunmeyer & her husband Rodney of Donora, PA, and Susan Arnold & her husband Jack of Osceola Mills, PA; a son, Edward A. Wood & his wife Pamela J. of Philipsburg, PA; and two brothers Robert Wood & his wife Marcella of Philipsburg, PA, and Jerry Wood & his wife Connie of Shrewsbury, PA. He is also survived by: seven grandchildren, Earl E. Smith & his wife Melanie of Roanoke, VA, David Smith & his companion Sonja McKay of Sandy Ridge, PA, Retta Dunmeyer of Donora, PA, Chrystal Dunmeyer of Donora, PA, Andrew J. Arnold & his wife Heather of Clarksville, TN, Gregory Wood & his wife Shannon of Colorado Springs, CO, and Ashley Wood of Philipsburg, PA; twelve great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Hank Schnarrs, Jr. of Philipsburg, PA; and numerous nieces & nephews.
The Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 26, 2013 at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home in Philipsburg, PA, with Rev. Gerald Krum officiating. Burial will be at the Philipsburg Cemetery in Philipsburg, PA.
Visitation will be on Sunday, August 25, 2013 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. and on Monday from 10:00 – 11:00 at the funeral home.
A Masonic memorial service will be held Sunday at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
