Susan P. Walker, 69, of Philipsburg, died Monday, July 3, 2023, at her residence.

Susan was born on April 17, 1954, in Philipsburg, a daughter of the late William Howard and Marjorie (Yaletchko) Philage.

She was a 1972 graduate of the Moshannon Valley High School. She furthered her education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and graduated in 1976 with a bachelor’s degree in education majoring in speech and hearing.

Early in her working career, Susan was employed with the Philipsburg Public Library. She then accepted a position as a speech pathologist for area school districts within the Central Intermediate Unit 10 service area. Later in her career, she accepted a similar position with the Philipsburg-Osceola Area School District. Susan retired in 2011 after 33 years of service to our local area school districts.

Susan was married on July 8, 1978, in Houtzdale, to Charles W. “Charlie” Walker, who survives at home.

She is also survived by a daughter, Bethany W. Shaw and her husband, Edward Shaw, III, and their daughter, Charli J. Shaw, all of Philipsburg; one sister, Paulette Howe, of Ramey; a brother, Bill Philage, of Knoxville, Tennessee; three nephews and one niece.

Susan was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Philipsburg; the Philipsburg B.P.O. Elks Lodge & Country Club, Lodge #1173; and a member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association.

Among her favorite pastimes, she loved traveling, bird watching, cooking, reading, and working in her flower garden. The photo featured in her obituary is of a recent visit to Niagara Falls.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at 10 am, at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 400 S. 4th. Street, Philipsburg, with Rev. Matthias Rendon, O.F.M., celebrant.

The family will receive friends on Monday, July 10, 2023, from 5 to 8 pm, at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 719 E. Spruce Street, Philipsburg.

There will be an Elks Memorial Service held on Monday at 8 pm at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Alexander Cemetery, Madera.

Memorial contributions may be made in Susan’s memory to the Centre County PAWS, 1401 Trout Road, State College, Pa 16801.
