George J. “Bugger” Verbitsky

George J. “Bugger” Verbitsky, 70, of Grassflat, died Saturday, September 4, 2021, at Penn Highlands DuBois.

George, better known by his family and friends as “Bugger,” was born on June 23, 1951, in Philipsburg, a son of the late William and Susan (Swancer) Verbitskey.

He served with the US Army during the Vietnam War era. Image of the US Army SealHe was employed during his working career with J.H. France; now known as Snow Shoe Refractories. He retired in 2013 after 43 years of service.

He was married on June 19, 1971, in Snow Shoe, to the former Regina S. Hockenberry, who survives at home.

He is also survived by one daughter, Tammy L. Thomas and her husband, Russ, of Grassflat; one grandson and “his best buddy,” Jim; and numerous other extended family members and friends.

“Bugger” had a great love for his family. He was always willing to lend a hand to help his family and friends in need.

Among his favorite pastimes, he enjoyed hunting, target shooting and woodworking.

Per “Bugger’s” wishes, there will be no public visitation or funeral service.
