Benedict “Ben” Vavreck

Benedict “ Ben” Vavreck, 81, of Hawk Run, died Wednesday, February 10, 2021, at Centre Crest, Bellefonte.

Ben was born on July 12, 1939, in Hawk Run, a son of the late Andrew J. and Barbara F. (Rusnak) Vavreck.

Ben was employed throughout his working career as a mason and carpenter by trade.

Ben was married on December 16, 1978, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Morrisdale, to the former Betty M. Timko, who preceded him in death on November 8, 2017.

He was also preceded in death by five sisters: Elizabeth “Betty” Kushner, Josephine Vavreck, Barbara “Bert” Sedlak, Agnes Kolosky, Marie Tarbay and an infant sister, Anne; and two brothers, Joseph “Joe” Vavreck and Andrew “Andy” Vavreck.

Ben is survived by a step-son, Andrew N. Vavreck and his wife, Peggy Shipley, of Port Matilda; two step-grandchildren, Cecilia Vavreck, of Lock Haven and Alex Vavreck, of Pittsburgh; two sisters, Sr. Barbara Ann Vavreck, SSJ, of Erie and Bernadette Johnson, of Houtzdale; one brother, Martin “Marty” Vavreck and his wife, Joanne, of Westerville, Ohio; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 17, 2021, at 1 pm, at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 719 E. Spruce Street, Philipsburg, with Rev. John Gibbons, officiating.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 10am until the time of the service at the funeral home. A family led Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, at 12:30 am, at the funeral home.

Interment will be in SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery, Hawk Run.
