Samuel L. “Sam” Timchak, Sr.

Samuel L. “Sam” Timchak, Sr., 87, of (Gearhartville) RD Philipsburg, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 9, 2022.

Samuel was born on August 4, 1934, in (Old Moshannon), RD Osceola Mills, a son of the late Frank and Lucy (Cartwright) Timchak.

During his working career, Sam was employed as a truck driver for the former Elliot Coal Company; a dragline oiler for K&J Coal Company; and as a line worker / breaker operator for the former Cerro Metals Products, Bellefonte. He retired from Cerro after 28 years of service.

Sam was married on November 24, 1956, in West Decatur, to the former Shirley G. MacTavish, who survives at home.

He is also survived by two sons, Samuel L. Timchak, Jr. and his wife, Kathy, of Clearfield and Andrew L. “Andy” Timchak and his wife, Judy, of Lanse; three grandchildren: Adam Timchak and his wife, Amie, of Carlisle, Kyle Timchak and his companion, Eunice, of Philadelphia and Zach Timchak, of Clearfield; one sister, Ethel Sharpless and her husband, Sheldon, of Sandy Ridge; and numerous other extended family members.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents; twin sons, Jerry L. and Terry L. Timchak, two sisters, Irene Campbell and Rose Sidorick; and two brothers, Gerald G. and Frank Timchak.

One of Sam’s favorite pastimes was playing the guitar. He played in local country-western bands for many years in his early days.

Then in 1989, Samuel went to the Altar to believe in and be saved by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Samuel continued his musical vocation as a guitarist for the Cornerstones and the Old Time Gospel Singers. They had played in the local churches and nursing homes for the past 20+ years up until the Covid-19 epidemic began.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 14, 2022, at 11 am, at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 719 E. Spruce St., Philipsburg, with Rev. John Dill, officiating

Visitation will be at the funeral home on Sunday, February 13, 2022, from 2 to 5pm; and on Monday from 10am until the time of the service.

Interment will be in Bigler Cemetery.
