Helen Thompson

Helen Thompson, 97, of Philipsburg and formerly of Altoona, died Monday, March 27, 2023, at Mountain Laurel Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.

Helen was born on March 24, 1926, in Philipsburg, a daughter of the late John and Helen (Oros) Sicks.

She retired at Maybrook Hills Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center (the former Valley View Home), Altoona.

Helen was an avid bowler in her younger years; she enjoyed traveling on bus trips and trying her luck at casinos and attending family reunions.  She especially enjoyed working outdoors mowing the lawn and shoveling snow.

She was a very strong, loving, giving, and kind person.  She was greatly loved and will be deeply missed.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Isabel Stoyanoff; an infant sister, Evelyn Sicks; five brothers:  Albert, Frank, Ernest, Steve and William “Bill” Sicks; three infant brothers: Joe, John, Jr., and Paul Sicks.

She is survived by a sister, Irene Brenish of (South) Philipsburg, numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Interment will be in Philipsburg Cemetery.
