James H. “Jim” Straw

James H. “Jim” Straw, 86, of West Decatur, died Friday, June 30, 2023, at Ridgeview Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, Curwensville.

Jim was born on October 14, 1936, at home in Boggs Township, Clearfield County, a son of the late Kenneth and Anna (Wisor) Straw.

Jim was a 1955 graduate of the former Philipsburg High School.

He was employed throughout his working career as a truck driver. Early in his career, he was employed in the construction industry where he drove end dump and cement mixing trucks. Later in his career, he was employed as an OTR driver with RT Merryman Trucking and Modern Transportation.

Jim was a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. Among his favorite pastimes, he enjoyed watching baseball, football and NASCAR races.

Jim was married on March 2, 1958, at the First Church of Christ, Philipsburg, to the former Elizabeth A. “Liz” Dickson, who preceded him in death on June 21, 2014.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Daniel Allen Straw; and a grandson, Travis Kephart Straw, in addition to his parents and wife, Liz.

Jim is survived by two sons, Larry J. Straw and his wife, Penny and Robert D. Straw, all of Philipsburg; four grandchildren: Danielle Curtorillo and her husband, Anthony, of Philipsburg, Kylee Kay Kimple and her husband, Jon, of Philipsburg, Daniel Trey Straw, of West Decatur and Trevor Allen Straw and his wife, Liz, of West Decatur; five great-grandchildren: Liberty, Evelynn and Anabelle Curtorillo, all of Philipsburg, Spencer Kay Kimple, of Philipsburg and Allison Jean Straw, of West Decatur; a daughter-in-law, Carla J. (Kephart) Straw, of West Decatur and her companion, Shawn Hanns; one sister, Carol Jones and her husband, Charles “Chuck,” of West Decatur; and numerous other extended family members.

A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Interment will be in Stoneville Cemetery, RD Clearfield.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Philipsburg.
