Janet A. “Granny” Somsky

Janet A. “Granny” Somsky, 84 of (Gearhartville) RD Philipsburg, PA, passed away on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at her residence.

Mrs. Somsky was the daughter of the late A.B. & Minnie Pearl (Enos) Hutton, born on April 19, 1928 in (Gearhartville) RD Philipsburg, PA.  She married Paul Somsky, Sr. on June 12, 1948 in Philipsburg, PA.  He preceded  her in death on November 16, 1989.

She was a Christian.  She enjoyed tending to her garden and flowers and working on the family farm.  Janet also especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Somsky was employed as a pocket setter for a number of Philipsburg clothing manufactures, including:  Lerner’s, McGregor’s,  McTague’s, and finally Charles Navasky & Co. until her retirement in 1990.  She was also a 1946 graduate of the former Philipsburg High School.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Somsky was preceded in death by: four sisters, Mary Wilkens, Evelyn Mikulewicz, Olive Cicero and Emiline Hutton; and five brothers, Eugene, H. James, Clarence, Elsworth and James H. Hutton.  Janet was the last of her generation.

She is survived by: two daughters, Paula J. Yoder & her husband Paul of (Gearhartville) RD Philipsburg, Suzie Jones & her husband John of (Gearhartville) RD Philipsburg, PA;  and a son, Paul Somsky & his wife Lorri of (Gearhartville) RD Philipsburg, PA.

Janet is also survived by: nine grandchildren, P.T. Yoder & his wife Marti, Aaron Moses Yoder & his wife Jessica,  Brittany Kephart & her husband Curtis, Joshua Yoder & his wife Jennifer, Justin Jones & his wife Torrey, Casey Adams & her husband, John, JoJo Laughlin & her husband Ryan, Kara Bryan and Drew Bryan; nine great-grandchildren, Sadie Yoder, Seth Yoder, Ben Yoder, Gertie Yoder, Eliot Yoder, Abe Yoder, Harley Adams, Jakodi Jones, and Jayden Jones; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Hutton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home in Philipsburg, PA, with Rev. Scott Hartsock and Rev. Ted Seibert co-officiating.  Burial will be at the Philipsburg Cemetery in Philipsburg, PA.

There will be no public visitation.
