Michael J. Slother

Michael J. Slother, 88, of Philipsburg, PA passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at his home.

He was the son of the late John and Julia Ann (Tekely) Slother, born on November 2, 1924 in Philipsburg, PA.  He married the former Shirley Lou Wood on December 10, 1947 in Philipsburg, PA.  She preceded him in death on September 5, 2012.

Image of the US Army emblemHe was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Philipsburg.  Mike was an Army veteran of W.W.II, serving as a sergeant.  He was also a Bronze Star recipient.

He was employed all of his life in the coal industry, retiring from the Stott Coal Company of Philipsburg, PA.  Because of his service in World War II, he was presented with his high school diploma from the Philipsburg-Osceola Area High School.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by: six brothers, Peter, John, Edward, Albert, Steve and Ben Slother; and four sisters, Mildred Slother, Elsie Archer, Frances Web and Agnes Dixon.

Mike is survived by two brothers, Thomas Slother of Florida and Ted Slother of Pleasantville, PA.  He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home in Philipsburg, PA, with Rev. Brenda K. Leigey officiating.  Burial will be at the Philipsburg Cemetery in Philipsburg, PA.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
