Barbara Joan Shufran

Barbara Joan Shufran, 96, passed away on Friday, October 27, 2023, at Dayspring Personal Care Home, RD Morrisdale.

A lifelong resident of Philipsburg, Barb was born March 16, 1927 and was a daughter of Frank Shufran and Catherine (Maruschak) Shufran.

Barb graduated from the West Penn Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. She
worked at the Veteran’s Hospital in Philadelphia and at the Philipsburg State General Hospital, from
which she retired. Still not done with nursing, she continued to work part-time at the
Presbyterian Home in Philipsburg for a number of years. She was highly respected in her field and
encouraged others to pursue careers in nursing.

Barb attended Saint John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Hawk Run where she was an active
member and served on the Altar Guild for several years. The church was a big part of her life, as
was her family. She was lucky enough to join some of her siblings on a trip to Russia where,
among other things, they toured several Orthodox churches.

Barb was very generous and loved to shop. She never forgot a birthday of any of the people in
her life, from the many nieces and nephews to friends, co-workers and extended family
members. Barb always sent a card and often a gift too.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters: Pauline Shufran, Mary Raymond,
Madeline Mehallow and Kathleen Stone; and two brothers, Andy and Steve Shufran.

She is survived by her siblings: Frank, Don, Patricia, Alex, Verone, Kenny and Greg. Also surviving are many
nieces and nephews and their children.

A special thank you goes out from Barb’s family to Barb’s niece, Dona Raymond, with whom
Barb lived for many years. Dona and other members of the Mary Raymond family enabled Barb
to live “at home” until she was 95.

Barb’s family also wishes to thank the team at Dayspring Personal Care Home where Barb
resided for the past eighteen months and to thank the hospice team that cared for her in her
final days.

Barb’s funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at 11:30 am, at Saint John the Baptist
Orthodox Church, 53 Fulton St, Hawk Run, Pa, with Fr. Paul Bigelow, officiating.

Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday morning from 10:00 am until the time of the service.

A Nightingale Tribute will be accorded by the Central Pennsylvania Nurses Honor Guard.

Interment will be in the Saint John the Baptist Orthodox Cemetery, Hawk Run.

In lieu of flowers, please feel free to honor Barb with a memorial contribution to your favorite
charity or church.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Philipsburg.
