Sarah V. “Sally” Shingledecker, 87, of Philipsburg, died Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.

Sally was born on August 13, 1935, in Punxsutawney, youngest daughter of the late Rolland J. and Valrie S. (Day) Carbaugh.

She was a 1953 graduate of Indiana High School, Indiana, Pa.

Early in her working career, Sally was employed with Bell Telephone in Baltimore, Maryland. She then moved to Philipsburg  to raise her family and was employed with the former Philipsburg General Cigar plant. She was a nurse’s aide at the Presbyterian Home for many years, then in her late 50’s she decided to attend Lock Haven University. There she earned her ASRN Cum Laude. She then worked at the Philipsburg State General Hospital until its closing and then at Tyrone Hospital.  She finished her working career as a private duty nurse into her 70’s.

Sally was a dedicated member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, in Philipsburg where she served as the choir director and organist for over 40 years. She was also an active member of the Valley Voices group in Philipsburg, and the Relay for Life.

In December of 1953, she Married Robert E Creek. They had five children who survive, two daughters, Vicki R. Monoski and her husband, Michael, of Mill Hall and Cindy Etchison and her husband, Bill, of Beulaville, North Carolina; three sons: Robert D. Creek, of Grassflat, Joseph “Joe” Creek, of Clearwater, Florida and Christopher E. “Chris” Creek and his wife, Abigail (Harchak) Creek, of Schellsburg . Sally loved her children dearly!

Sally was married on June 17, 1986, to Edwin T. Shingledecker, who preceded her in death on April 2, 1996. Through this union, she joyfully gained three stepchildren; Linda (Roger) Bjorkquist, Kay Shingledecker, and Gary (Nancy) Shingledecker. She loved them like her own.

She was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Phyllis Altman and Patricia Davies; and one brother, Richard Carbaugh.

As much as Sally loved her children, she adored her 8 grandchildren: James “Jim” Creek, Shana Slother, Autumn Hannagan and her husband, Matt, Adam Slother and his wife, Kaylee, Grace Creek, Mercy Creek, Liam Creek and Wyatt Creek; and her seven step-grandchildren: Ryan Monoski, Dana Keeler, Randy Bjorkquist, Andrea Hauser, Christa Knepp, Betty Lynn Little and James Cunningham. As much as Sally loved her children and adored her grandchildren, she loved, loved, loved her many, many great-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren!  She was blessed and loved by a wealth of other extended family members and friends.
