Calvin L. Shields

Calvin L. Shields, 76, of Pleasant Gap, PA died Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA.

Born on November 12, 1938 in Philipsburg, PA, he was the son of the late Lester and Vivian (Butterworth) Shields.  He married the former Nancy J. Czap on September 15, 1963 in Hawk Run, PA, she survives at home.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Hawk Run, PA and served in the U.S. Navy from 1959 to 1962.  Mr. Shields was a member of the B.P.O. Elks #1600 in State College, PA, a former president of the Independent Bankers of Pennsylvania and was the President of the First National Bank of Centre Hall until his retirement.  He was a 1955 graduate of the Philipsburg High School.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: an infant daughter Julie Lynn Shields; and two brothers, William “Bill” and Warren Shields.  He was the last of his generation.

Along with his wife, he is survived by: a daughter, Jennifer Marx and her husband Michael of State College, PA; two sons, Shawn Shields of Bergenfield, NJ; and Dr. Elmo Randolph of Bergenfield, NJ; and two grandchildren, Gabriel and Eliza Marx both of State College, PA.

The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 23, 2015 at St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Hawk Run, PA with Rev. Peter Benyo officiating and Deacon Emil Gulick assisting.  Burial will be at the Church cemetery in Hawk Run, PA.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Monday from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 East Spruce Street in Philipsburg, PA.

Panahida will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
