MAJOR CHRISTOPHER E. REED (ret.)

Major Christopher E. Reed, PAARNG (ret.), 47, of Chester Hill, died Thursday, September 20, 2018, at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.

Chris was born on July 19, 1971, a son of Bonnie (Kowalcyk) Reed, who preceded him in death; and Robert E. Reed, Sr., who survives of Houtzdale.

He was a 1989 graduate of the Moshannon Valley High School. Following high school, he attended and graduated in 1994 from Lock Haven University with a Bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education. He would further his education a little later on in life, when he earned his MBA in Global Leadership from Delaware Valley College in 2011.

In 1994, Chris began his working career with the Pa. Department of Corrections and held various positions, the most recent being Corrections Activities Manager 2, at SCI Houtzdale, up until his retirement in August 2018.

Chris also had a concurrent military career with the Pa Army National Guard. His military service began in 1988 while he was stillImage of US Army National Guard Insignia in high school. He was part of the ROTC program when he was at Lock Haven and received his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1994. Chris spent his entire military career assigned to the 2-112th Infantry Battalion. Chris served as a Logistics Officer during his deployment to Kosovo for Operation Enduring Freedom; a Training Officer during his deployment in response to Hurricane Katrina; and as an Executive Officer during his deployment to Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom. Throughout his military service, he was awarded numerous decorations including a Bronze Star Medal. He retired from military service in 2014 with the rank of Major after 26 years of service.

Chris was married on September 13, 1995, in Phenix City, Alabama, to the former Lizette “Liz” Gibson, of State College, who survives at home.

He is also survived by a daughter, Leslie M. Hosterman and her husband, Nathan, of Lewisburg; one son, Ryan D. Wilson and his wife, Rene, of Apex, North Carolina; five grandchildren; one brother, Robert E. Reed, Jr. and his wife, Jill; and three nephews and one niece.

Chris attended gFree Methodist Church, (Gearhartville) RD Philipsburg. He was also a member of the Houtzdale American Legion, Freeberg Post #591; Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #5020 and Osceola Lodge # 515; F. & A. M., both of Osceola Mills; and member and past officer of the B.P.O. Elks #1173, Philipsburg.

The funeral service will be on Tuesday, September 25, 2018, at 10 am at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 121 S. Front Street, Philipsburg, with Pastor Noel Myers, officiating.

Visitation will be at the church on Monday, September 24, 2018, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm.

Interment will be in the American Legion Cemetery, Brisbin.

Military Honors will be accorded by past and current members of the 2-112th Infantry Battalion.
