Joann Raymond

Joann S. Raymond, 86, of (Ernestville) RD Osceola Mills, and formerly of Chester Hill and (Hudson) RD Philipsburg, died Wednesday, March 3, 2021, at the residence of her daughter, Regina ”Gina” K. Raymond and her husband, Allen Smith, (Ernestville) RD Osceola Mills.

Joann was born on June 7, 1934, in (Old Moshannon) RD Osceola Mills, a daughter of the late Peter P. and Bernadine (Pearson) Slother.

Joann was employed with a few local businesses during her working career. Early in her career, she was employed as a waitress with the former Ray’s Diner and the Pike Inn; she also served as a secretary for the Philipsburg AMVETS and as a bookkeeper for the former W.T. Grant (Grants) store, and head bookkeeper for Charles Navasky & Company. Later in her career, she drove bus for the local Head Start program and was employed as a bookkeeper for the former John Glenn Sanitation.

Joann was married on June 9, 1951, in Winchester, Virginia, to James L. Raymond, who preceded her in death on November 6, 2009.

Joann was also preceded in death by a daughter, Traci Ann Raymond; twin infant brothers; and a brother, Leroy Slother.

She is survived by three daughters: L. Tammy Schnarrs and her husband, Henry “Smoke” Schnarrs, III, of (Hudson) RD Philipsburg, Janice L. Foster and her husband, James L. Foster, of West Decatur, and Regina “Gina” K. Raymond and her husband, Allen Smith, of (Ernestville) RD Osceola Mills; three sons: Dewey Raymond, of (Glass City) RD Philipsburg, M. Glenn Raymond and his wife, Jeannie, of Osceola Mills and Martin P. Raymond and his wife, Shelly, of Munson; 28 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, Donald P. Slother and his wife, LaRue, of (Salem) RD West Decatur; and numerous other extended family members.

Some of Joann’s favorite pastimes included shopping, traveling, camping, painting, and collecting snowmen. She was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. She was also a community-oriented person; having served on the Chester Hill Borough Council and Ladies Auxiliary. She was also an accomplished poet and very proud of her published works.
A public visitation will be held on Monday, March 8, 2021, from 6 to 8 pm, at the First Church of Christ, 1437 Tyrone Pike, Philipsburg.

A private funeral service will be held at the church with Pastor Ryan Parish, officiating.
The funeral service may be viewed on YouTube channel “First Church of Christ Philipsburg” on Tuesday, March 9, 2021, at 11:00 am.

All current Covid-19 guidelines concerning the use of masks and social distancing will be observed for the visitation and funeral service.
Interment will be in Umbria Cemetery, Osceola Mills.
