Rodney Lee “Pete” Pepperday

Rodney Lee Pepperday, 77, affectionally known as “Pete,” of (South) Philipsburg, went to be with his Lord and Saviour, on Friday, July 6, 2018, surrounded by his loving family at home.

He was born on September 30, 1940, in Philipsburg, a son of the late Walter and Hattie (Daughenbaugh) Pepperday.

Rodney was married on May 16, 1959, to the love of his life, the former Sandra “Sandy” Croft, who survives at home.

They were blessed with 59 years of marriage and two sons; Douglas Pepperday and his wife, Amy, and Scott Pepperday and his wife, Jan, all of Philipsburg. He is also survived by two grandsons, (both of whom were his pride and joy), Dr. Cody Pepperday, of Detroit, Michigan and Caleb Pepperday, of Philipsburg.

When Pete was younger, he played Little League Baseball and football. He was a 1958 graduate of the former Philipsburg High School. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator during his working career and retired from Penelec in 2001 after 35 years of service.

Pete had served as a church usher for the past 60 years and most recently attended the New Life Center, Philipsburg.

Pete is also survived by one sister, Beverly Thomas and her husband, Bob, of Philipsburg; three sisters-in-law, Jo Ann Pepperday, of Philipsburg, Joy Pepperday, of Honeybrook, (Pa.), and Jean Croft, of Philipsburg; a brother-in-law, Hugh “Bud” Croft, of Clearfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pete had a great sense of humor and kept it to the end.

He was a self-employed electrician and enjoyed taking on projects like wiring new homes.

He was preceded in death by three brothers: Fred, Charles and Frankie Pepperday; two brothers-in-law, Melvin Croft and Clyde Phillips; three sisters-in-law: Evelyn Pepperday, Dorothy Phillips and Mary Alice Croft; and his father and mother-in-law, Hugh Croft and Ida Croft Hummel.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 9, 2018, at 11 am at the New Life Center, 111 S. 2nd. Street, Philipsburg, with Rev. John T. Dill and Rev. Duane A. White, co-officiating.

Visitation will be on Sunday, July 8, 2018, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 E. Spruce Street, Philipsburg; and on Monday, July 9, 2018, from 10 am until the time of the funeral service at the church.

Interment will be in Philipsburg Cemetery, Philipsburg.
