Ernest A. “Ernie” Mohney

Ernest A. “Ernie” Mohney, 94, of (Black Moshannon) RD Philipsburg, died Friday, March 14, 2025, at

Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.

Ernie was born on February 25, 1931, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Emery A. and Veva (Milliron) Mohney.

Ernie was a 1950 graduate of Punxsutawney High School.

He was married on February 15, 1952, in Punxsutawney, to the former Bernice E. McQuown.

During his working career, Ernie was employed as a trucker driver for Harvey Co. / Valley National Gas out of their former Punxsutawney location. He was promoted to a district manager position with the same company and he worked out of their former Philipsburg location from 1982-1993. Ernie remained with the company until his retirement in the 1990’s.  

He was a member of the First Church of Christ, (Tyrone Pike) RD Philipsburg; the Philipsburg Kiwanis; a member and Past Master of the John W. Jenks Lodge #534, F. & A.M., Punxsutawney; the Valley of Coudersport, A.A.S.R. of F.; Jaffa Shrine, Altoona.

Ernie was preceded in death by his parents; a great-granddaughter, Allysa Mohney; and one brother, Lester Mohney.

He is survived by his wife, Bernice, of RD Philipsburg; two daughters, Karen L. Neuman (Shalom), of Easton, Pa. and Laurie D. Raybuck (Jack), of Clarion, Pa.; two sons, Ernest “Bud” Mohney, Jr. and Brian D. Mohney, both of Punxsutawney; two grandchildren, Chad McKenrick (Becky), of White Haven, Pa. and Scott Mohney, of Punxsutawney; two great grandchildren, Laken McKenrick and Christa Mohney; two step-grandchildren, Amanda Raybuck Fleming (Bill) and Dan Raybuck (Jodee); three step-great grandchildren: Brooks and Ryla Fleming and Ethan Byers; and numerous other extended family members.

Among his favorite pastimes, he was an avid outdoorsman and he enjoyed maintaining an extensive pocket knife collection.

A memorial service celebrating Ernie’s life will be held at the First Church of Christ, 1437 Tyrone Pike,

Philipsburg, on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at 1 pm, with Scott Finnegan, officiating.

The family will receive guests at the church on Sunday from Noon until the time of the service.
