John S. “Jack” Minarchick

John S. “Jack” Minarchick, 78, of the “Slabtown” neighborhood of Philipsburg, died Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.

Born September 30, 1940, in (New Liberty) RD Philipsburg, he was a son of the late George and Isabel Margaret (Rothrock) Minarchick.

Jack was a 1960 graduate of the Philipsburg-Osceola Area High School. Following high school, he served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War era.Image of the US Air Force Seal

Jack was employed for most of his working career as a mechanic. He retired from Joel Confer Toyota, State College, after 35 years of service.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Philipsburg; where he had previously served as an usher and church trustee. He was also a member of the Osceola Mills American Legion, Post #0313 and the B.P.O. Elks, Lodge #1173, Philipsburg. Jack had also served on the Philipsburg Borough Council from 1994 until 2009.

He was married on May 7, 1992, in Winchester, Virginia, to the former Jo (Henwood) Sankey, who survives at home.

Jack is also survived by two daughters, Debra K. Steffan and her husband, Lyle, of Williston, Florida, and Vickie L. Witting, of Dublin, Ohio; one son, Duane M. Minarchick and his wife, Sherry, of Pennsylvania Furnace; one step-daughter, Michelle Kephart and her husband, Scott, of (Gearhartville) RD Philipsburg; one step-son, Douglas Sankey and his wife, Brenda, of Philipsburg; 13 grandchildren: Kylie, Noah, Jason, Amber, Taylor, Holly, Christine, Curtis, Brandon, Ryan, Ali, Sadie and Olivia; two great-grandchildren, Kailyn and Grant; one brother, George “Gene” Minarchick and his wife, Marie, of West Decatur; and numerous other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by one son, Lamar Minarchick and one sister, Nancy Speakman, in addition to his parents.

Jack enjoyed many years of fishing, hunting, and bowling with his friends as well as spending time with his family.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at 11 am, at the Grace United Methodist Church, 912 E. Pine Street, Philipsburg, with Rev. Michelle Bodle, officiating. Military Honors will be accorded at the church by the Osceola Mills Honor Guard.

Visitation will be on Monday, December 10, 2018, from 3 to 5 pm and 7 to 9 pm at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 E. Spruce Street, Philipsburg; and on Tuesday, from 10 am until the time of the service at the church.

The B.P.O.Elks, Lodge #1173, will conduct a memorial service Monday evening at 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
