Carolyn E. McGovern

Carolyn E. McGovern, 88 years old, a resident Windy Hill Village, PSL, Philipsburg, and formerly of LeContes Mills and Clearfield, died Sunday, March 3, 2024, at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.

Carolyn was born on May 3, 1935, in Karthaus, a daughter of the late Herman E. and Magdaline M. (Roussey) McGovern.

Carolyn was employed with a few area businesses throughout her working career that included the former (North) Philipsburg General Cigar plant, Penelec, and working as a home health caretaker. However, she was employed for most of her career as a line cook with Sapp Bros. (Clearfield Truckstop) Restaurant for over 20 years.

Carolyn was of the Baptist faith. She had been a member of the Karthaus Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary and the Red Hat Society of Clearfield.

Among her favorite pastimes, she enjoyed working on arts, crafts and designing / baking wedding cakes.

Carolyn is survived by two daughters, Margaret A. “Peg” Livergood and her husband, Jim, of Frenchville and Debra A. McGonigal, of Woodland; three sons: Thomas L. McGonigal, Anthony B. McGonigal and his wife, Sue and Roger L. McGonigal, all of Frenchville; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Betty McGovern, of Keewaydin; two brothers-in-law, Haskell I. Renoe, of Keewaydin and William T. Paul, of Karthaus; and numerous other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by a son, George W. McGonigal; a great-grandchild, Michael Gavlock; four sisters: Helen T. Paul, Adelle L. Heichel, Mary L. Leigey and DeSales C. Renoe; and four brothers: Francis, Sylvester, Thomas and Patrick McGovern.

She was the last of her generation.

A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
