Stephen A. Matusko

Stephen A. Matusko, 68, of (Black Moshannon) RD Philipsburg, died Sunday, March 3, 2019, at his residence following a brief illness.

Steve was born on November 13, 1950, at the former US Naval Hospital in Chelsea, Massachusetts, a son of the late Stanley and Estelle (Young) Matusko.

He was a 1968 graduate of Amherst Regional High School, Amherst, Massachusetts.

Steve had been employed in the automobile business throughout much of his working career. He was the owner / operator of the former Mountain Top Auto, RD Philipsburg. After owning his own business for a period of time, he enjoyed a career in auto sales with a few local dealerships including: the former “Harpster-Land,” of Philipsburg, Leitzinger Imports / State College Motors, of State College, the former Rider Motors, of RD Philipsburg and most recently, Blaise Alexander, of Chester Hill.

Steve had many hobbies he enjoyed doing in his spare time. He was a true outdoorsman at heart. He enjoyed sailing, cross-country skiing, mountain biking, ice skating, motorcycling, camping, gardening and numerous other outdoor activities in our local state parks and forests. He cared very much about the environment and was an active participant in a local group advocating against “fracking” in the Black Moshannon and surrounding areas.

He had a vast knowledge of mechanics, carpentry, electrical and plumbing. He applied his creative talents and innate technical know-how to automotive detailing, repair, and home remodeling projects

Steve was married on September 10, 1988, in Ogunquit, Maine, to Gloria J. Gallo, who survives at home.

He is survived by two daughters, Karisa J. Matusko, of RD Philipsburg and Heather N. Andrews and her husband, Ben, of San Diego, Calif.; two sons, Mitchel L. Matusko, of RD Philipsburg and Jesse A. Matusko and his wife, Christal of Lanse; four grandchildren: Ben, Brayden and Brenden Andrews, all of San Diego, California and Zoe Matusko of Hollidaysburg; two sisters, Lauren Matusko, of Greenfield, Massachusetts and Michele Roberts and her husband, Juan, of Belchertown, Massachusetts; one brother, David Matusko and his wife, Jennifer, of Florence, Massachusetts. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members as well as his former spouse, Susan Good.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Amanda, in 1995.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2019, at 3 pm, at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 719 E. Spruce Street, Philipsburg, with Rev. Christine Roe, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, March 9, 2019, from 3 to 6 pm; and on Sunday, March 10, 2019, from 1:30 pm until the time of the service at the funeral home.
