Shawn P. Martin

Shawn P. Martin, 46, of West Decatur, died Wednesday, August 10, 2022, in Taylor Township, Centre County, as a result of a motor vehicle accident.

Shawn was born on December 31, 1975, a son of Cynthia M. “Cindy” (Hoover) Martin, who survives of Osceola Mills and the late John K. “Jack” Martin.

Shawn was a 1994 graduate of the Philipsburg -Osceola Area High School.

Early in his working career, he was employed with Randy Sterling Trucking, Inc., of Morrisdale. Shawn was currently employed as a Corrections Officer at SCI Houtzdale. He was a member of the SCI Houtzdale CERT and served on the Correction Officer’s Honor Guard. He was also Treasurer for the SCI Houtzdale local union of the P.S.C.O.A.

Shawn served with the Army National Guard and was a veteran of the Global War on Terrorism. His service included two active duty assignments, his first was to Germany; and his second was a tour in Iraq.

He was a member of the Philipsburg American Legion, Post 437; the Philipsburg VFW, Post 3450; the Janesville VFW Post 6321; he was a Founding Member of the Janesville VFW Riders, and he was currently the President of the P-O Quarterback Club. He had also coached in the P-O Little League Baseball and Pee-Wee Football leagues.

Shawn was married on August 22, 1998, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Philipsburg, to the former Bethann Pastir, who survives at home.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by two sons, Hunter P. Martin and Matthew D. Martin, both who survive at home; a sister, Amber D. Swortwood and her companion, Tommy Shoemaker, of Osceola Mills; his maternal grandfather, Ronald Hoover, of Osceola Mills, his mother-in-law, Joanne Pastir, of Philipsburg; a brother-in-law, Gregory Pastir and his wife, Amy, of Saylorsburg, Pa.; and numerous other extended family members.

Shawn was preceded in death by his father; maternal grandmother, Marva J. (Baney) Hoover; his paternal grandparents, Edward F. and Norabelle (Roach) Martin; and his father-in-law, Stephen Pastir.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at 11 am at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 719 E. Spruce St., Philipsburg, with Pastor Noel Meyers, officiating.

The visitation will be on Monday, August 15, 2022, from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home; and on Tuesday from 10 am until the time of the funeral service.

Military Honors will be accorded at graveside.

Interment will be in Philipsburg Cemetery.
