Reuben King Lucas

Reuben King Lucas, 69, of Philipsburg, died Sunday, September 25, 2022, at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.

Reuben was born on July 14, 1953, in Philipsburg, a son of the late Alzene O. Lucas.

Reuben was a 1971 graduate of the Philipsburg-Osceola Area High School. He was also a graduate of the Hiram G. Andrews Center and Commonwealth Technical Institute, Johnstown.

Reuben was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Philipsburg, for 56 years.  He was employed with the Pennsylvania State University, University Park Campus. Early in his career at Penn state, he worked in the greenhouses; he then transferred to the custodial services department. He retired after 29 years of service to the university.

Reuben was active in the Special Olympics Pennsylvania program. He participated in the softball and swimming events; and he received numerous medals for his achievements.

Reuben is survived by a sister, Mary C. Dickson and her husband, Bill, of West Decatur; a brother, Frank R. Lucas, of Philipsburg; a niece, Brittany Slother and her husband Doug, a nephew, Billy Dickson and his companion, Merry Caslow, two great-nephews, Landen and Braiden Dickson and three great-nieces, Maci Jane, Jaylee “J.J.” Slother and Kinsley Dickson, all of West Decatur.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Alzene.

A funeral service will be held at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 719 E. Spruce St., Philipsburg, on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at 11am, with Pastor Donald Smith, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm; and on Wednesday from 10 am until the time of the service.

Interment will be in Philipsburg Cemetery.
