Theodore E. “Ted” Kolbe, Jr.

Theodore E. “Ted” Kolbe, Jr., 66, of (North) Philipsburg, died Monday, December 11, 2023, surrounded by his loving family, at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.

Ted was born on April 14, 1957, in Philipsburg, a son of Theodore E. Kolbe, Sr. and Ethel (Stover) Kolbe, both who survive of Philipsburg.

Ted was a 1975 graduate of the Philipsburg-Osceola Area High School. Following high school, he attended Lock Haven State College.

He was married on July 3, 1981, at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Philipsburg, to the former Susan Shedlock, who survives at home. Teddy and Susie were married for 41 years; and their life together was a true real-life love story.

He was employed for most of his working career with the Pennsylvania State University. He was a project manager with the OPP at Penn State at the time of his retirement in 2016. Following his retirement from Penn State, Ted and his wife, Sue, relocated to Florida and received their real estate licenses. Their time selling real estate in Florida would be brief; and they relocated back to Philipsburg in 2021 to be closer to family and friends.

Ted was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and the B.P.O. Elks Lodge & Country Club, #1173, both of Philipsburg.

Among his favorite pastimes, he was an avid Penn State wrestling fan; and he enjoyed hunting and fishing. However, one of the biggest events that Ted looked forward to every year was  his annual pig roast.

Along with his wife, Susan, and his parents, Ted is survived by a daughter, Katie (Ryan) Holden, of Pennsylvania Furnace; a son, Daniel (Douglas) Kolbe, of State College; two grandsons, Ellis and Jadon; three brothers: Larry Kolbe, of Allport, Jerry (Susan) Kolbe, of Port Matilda and Timothy Kolbe, of Philipsburg; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

An Elks Memorial Service will be held at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 719 E. Spruce St., Philipsburg, on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at 11 am. Immediately following the Elks service, a memorial service will be held at the funeral home with Deacon Brian Yurky, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 9 am until the time of the service.

A luncheon following the service will be held  at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church Social Hall, 400 S Fourth St, Philipsburg.

Burial will be in SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery , RD Philipsburg.
