John D. “Hoagie” Kennedy

Photo of John KennedyJohn D. “Hoagie” Kennedy, 68, of Philipsburg, PA died Thursday, June 4, 2015 at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA.

Born on December, 1, 1946 in Philipsburg, PA he was the son of the late William & Anna (Kasper) Kennedy. On March 9, 2002 he married the former Susan Dunsmore in Philipsburg, PA; who survives at home.

Mr. Kennedy was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Philipsburg, PA.  He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War.  He was a member of theImage of the US Army Seal Sinnemahoning Sportsmen Association Inc. in Sinnemahoning, PA, the American Legion, Post #6 and the Sons of Italy Lodge #189 both of Clearfield, PA.  He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5020 of Osceola Mills, PA, the AMVETS Post #159, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3450 both of Philipsburg, PA and he was a life member of the BPO Elks #1173 of Philipsburg, PA.

He was first employed as a mason with his brother’s masonry company.  Then employed for 25 years in construction and as a fish culturist with the PA Fish and Boat Commission until his retirement in April 2007.  He was a 1964 graduate of the Philipsburg-Osceola Area High School.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by: three daughters, Krista Joyanne Kennedy, Jennifer Ann Kennedy and Erin S. Beish; and two brothers William “Zero” and Karl “Tweet” Kennedy.

Along with his wife he is survived by: a son, Brian G. Beish & his wife, Brea of Philipsburg, PA; three sisters, Joyanne Kennedy of Philipsburg, PA, Marilyn Slother of Philipsburg, PA and Christine Horner & her husband Stan of Hagerstown, MD.  He is also survived by: three grandsons, Nolan “Buddy B” and Lucas “Highpockets” Beish and Everett “Jimmy Cricket” Kennedy Maska all of Philipsburg, PA; a sister-in-law, Edith Kennedy and her companion, Ray Gorsuch, of RD Philipsburg; three brothers-in-law,  Robert Dunsmore & his wife Joann of Spring Hill, FL, James Dunsmore of Lakeland, FL and Thomas Dunsmore & his wife Beth of Philipsburg, PA;  numerous nieces and nephews and one nephew with whom he was especially close, Rick Kennedy & his wife Erin of Nahant, MA.

The Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, June 8, 2015 at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 East Spruce Street, Philipsburg, PA; with Rev Robert J. Way officiating.  Burial will be at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery, RD Philipsburg, PA.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 7, 2015 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.

A BPO Elks memorial service will be conducted at 7:00 pm on Sunday at the funeral home.

Full Military Honors will be accorded by the Moshannon Valley Honor Guard.
