Eleanor P. Kennard

Eleanor P. Kennard, 82, of Clearfield, and formerly of Pittsburgh and Philipsburg, died Friday, June 30, 2017, at Mountain Laurel Health and Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.

Born May 23, 1935, in Hawk Run, she was a daughter of Michael and Pauline (Pintus) Hurtack, both of whom preceded her in death.

Eleanor was a 1953 graduate of the former Philipsburg High School. She then graduated from the former Philipsburg State General Hospital School of Nursing; and subsequently earned her Registered Nurse license. Eleanor continued her education at Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, and the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, where she received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Nursing, respectively. Following her graduation from University of Pennsylvania, she accepted a position at St. Francis College, Loretto, where she remained for a few years. She then accepted a position at LaRoche College, Pittsburgh, where she retired from their nursing program after 27 years of service.

Eleanor was a member of Cornerstone Community Fellowship Church of God, Wallaceton. She was an avid reader and enjoyed working word puzzles in her spare time.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Michael E. Hurtack, Sr., in addition to her parents.

Eleanor is survived by two daughters, Julia Doughty and her husband, Gene, of Ellwood City and Barbara Kennard, of New Castle; two brothers, Nicholas Hurtack and his wife, Margaret “Peggy” and Eugene Hurtack, all of Philipsburg; and her longtime companion, Ronald Powell, of Clearfield.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at 11:00 am at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 E. Spruce Street, Philipsburg, with Pastor Matt Scott, Officiating.

Visitation will be on Wednesday from 10:00 am until the time of the service at the funeral home.
