Lois R. Johnson

Lois R. Johnson, 99, of Philipsburg, died Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at her residence.

Lois was born on September 22, 1924, in Philipsburg, a daughter of the late William and Ruth (Wise) Hessong.

She was a 1942 graduate of the former Philipsburg High School.

Lois was employed as a seamstress throughout her working career with several area businesses that included McGregor Clothing, McTague Industries and Charles Navasky & Co.

She was a member of the First Church of Christ, RD Philipsburg; and a former member of the Loyal Builders Sunday School Class.

Lois was married on October 29, 1945, in Philipsburg, to Eugene L. Johnson, Sr., who preceded her in death on February 18, 1989.

She was also preceded in death by four sisters: Dorothy McCully, Louise Walls, Helen Folmar and Betty Sabol; one brother, Donald Hessong; and a daughter-in-law, Cecilia Johnson, in addition to her parents and husband.

She is survived by two sons, Eugene L. Johnson, Jr. and his wife, Eileen and Leo P. Johnson, Sr., all of Philipsburg; four grandchildren: Christopher F. Johnson, of Austin, (Pa), Kerry L. Wonders, of Carmel, Indiana, Leo P. Johnson, Jr. and his wife, Erin, of Philipsburg and Nicole Schnarrs and her husband, Josh, of Philipsburg; one great-grandson, Noah Schnarrs; one brother, Merlin Hessong, of (North) Philipsburg; and numerous other extended family members.

A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Interment will be in SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery, RD Philipsburg.
