Hassel H. Hockenberry, Jr.

Hassel H. Hockenberry, Jr., 74, of West Decatur, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.

Hassel was born on September 22, 1947, in Bellefonte, a son of the late Hassel H. Hockenberry, Sr. and Susan (Fetters) Hockenberry.

Hassel, better known as “Jr” was a graduate of the BellefonteImage of the US Army Seal High School. He served with the US army during the Vietnam War era.

“Jr” was employed throughout his working career as a truck driver; and he was also employed as ride operator/mechanic for Garbrick Amusements, Centre Hall.

He loved fishing, hunting, working on vehicles and spending time with his family.

“Jr” was married on June 5, 1980, in Bellefonte, to the former Alverta M. Vaughn, who survives at home.

He is also survived by three daughters: Joyce Williams and her husband, Tony, of Perry County, (Pa), Linda Wright, of Perry County, (Pa) and Louise Hynd and her husband, Jeff, of Madera; one son, Hassel H. “Butch” Hockenberry, III and his wife, Joyce, of Philipsburg; three sisters: Mary Harpster, of Philipsburg, Shirley Gaines, of Marion Center and Virginia Smith and her husband, John, of Houtzdale; five brothers: Oliver Hockenberry and his wife, Pam, of Philipsburg, Orville Hockenberry, of Philipsburg, Simon Hockenberry, of Greensburg, Allen Hockenberry, of West Decatur and Willie Hockenberry and his wife, Deb, of Clearfield; 14 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and numerous other extended family members.

“Jr” was preceded in death by two sisters, Nellie and Geraldine Hockenberry; two infant sisters; a brother, Richard Hockenberry; a son-in-law, Brian Wright; a brother-in-law, Bernie Gaines; and a sister-in-law, Barb.

The family will receive friends at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Philipsburg, on Friday, November 12, 2021, from 10am until 1 pm.

Military Honors will be accorded by the Philipsburg American Legion Honor Guard on Friday at 1 pm, at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Myers Cemetery, Bellefonte, at the convenience of the family.
