Charles Wesley Harbaugh

Charles Wesley Harbaugh, 65, of Philipsburg, and formerly of Martinsburg, West Virginia, died Saturday, December 15, 2018, at his residence.

Charles was born on October 7, 1953, in Hagerstown, a son of the late Donald W. and Emma P. (Neikirk) Harbaugh.

He was a graduate of South High School, Hagerstown. Following high school, he attended West Virginia University Institute of Technology, Beckley, West Virginia.

Charles was employed from 1973 to 1995 as a clean room installer for Zeigler Mechanical Contractors, Hagerstown. He then accepted a position in 1995 as a post-secondary HVAC instructor for the James Rumsey Technical Institute, Martinsburg, West Virginia. During his employment with JRTI, he received numerous awards in HVAC instruction. He retired from the school in 2011 due to illness.

Charles was married on May 27, 1988, in Martinsburg, West Virginia to the former Nina R. (Jones) Cool, who survives at home.

He is also survived by his three children: Candy S. Harbaugh-Weaver and her companion, Kirk Burcker, of Greencastle,(Pa), Donald C. Harbaugh, of Hagerstown and Laura A. Cool Mann and her husband, Greg, of Chesapeake, Virginia; eight grandchildren: Alison Sensenig, Christopher Weaver, Jonathan Weaver, Kailee Burcker, Kendle Burcker, Jackson Chally, Zachary Mann and Hunter Mann; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Kim Demottez, of Hagerstown; two brothers, Richard Harbaugh, of Gore, Virginia and Steven Harbaugh and his wife, Theresa, of Hagerstown; and numerous other extended family members.

Charles was preceded in death by one son, Benjamin M. Cool, in addition to his parents.

Charles enjoyed gardening, cooking and he loved watching NASCAR races. One of his favorite NASCAR memories was his trip to “The World Center of Racing,” Daytona International Speedway. His love for NASCAR carried over to the local level; as his favorite pastime was dirt track racing. Like any other local dirt racer, his was a full-time hobby. He was a regular entry at the local dirt tracks in the Hagerstown, Md and Bedford, Pa areas.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 18, 2018, from 2 to 5 pm at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 719 E. Spruce Street, Philipsburg. Following the visitation at the funeral home, the family will receive guests from 5 to 8 pm, at the Harbor Inn, Philipsburg, for a celebration of life and reception.
