Gladys L. Hagyard, 86, of Philipsburg, PA, died peacefully on Friday, September 30, 2022, at Windy Hill Village, PSL, Philipsburg.

Gladys was born on September 17, 1936, in Philipsburg, daughter of the late Arthur and Margaret (Goldthorp) Hagyard.

She was a 1954 graduate of the former Philipsburg High School.

During her working career, Gladys was employed as a secretary with the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, Washington, D.C. and then as a secretary with the Pennsylvania State University, University Park Campus.

Gladys was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Philipsburg and a past member of the Episcopal Church Women.

Gladys was a friend to everyone, enjoyed good conversation and had a sharp sense of humor. She was an avid fan of Penn State sports teams and loved listening to the Blue Band. During her time at Windy Hill Village, she often did volunteer work at the resident community and was usually out in the halls engaging with staff, visitors and residents.

Later in life, she fondly reminisced about Philipsburg Heritage Days, family picnics at Black Moshannon and childhood swims at Cold Stream Dam. She loved playing Canasta and taught many others how to play over the years.

She was preceded in death by sister Janet Bell and her husband Richard, brother John Hagyard, and brother William Hagyard and his wife Dorothy.

Gladys is survived by brother Robert Hagyard (wife Nancy) of Philipsburg, sister-in-law Romayne Hagyard (wife of John) of Silver Spring, Maryland, and also by numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, from 6 to 8 pm, at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 719 E. Spruce St., Philipsburg.

A Memorial Eucharist will be celebrated on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at 11 am, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 406 E. Presqueisle St., Philipsburg, with Fr. Robert McKay, IV, celebrant.

Interment will be in Philipsburg Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in Gladys’ memory to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 406 E. Presqueisle Street, Philipsburg, PA 16866.
